Stone Shipping and Logistics: Complete Guide to Transporting Stone from China

Plan stone transport from the packed cargo outward: confirm package size and weight, handling needs, route, responsibilities and destination delivery before comparing freight quotations. There is no single container capacity, transit time or freight rate that applies to every stone order.

Choose transport against the actual cargo

Option Questions to discuss with the forwarder
Full container load Which equipment suits the package dimensions, mass distribution, securing and unloading plan?
Consolidated sea freight How many handling stages are expected, and what packing, minimum charges and destination services apply?
Air freight or courier Will the carrier accept the packed sample’s dimensions, weight and contents, and what is the chargeable weight?

Do not estimate the permitted stone quantity from square metres alone. Material thickness, actual density, packing weight, equipment limits and route restrictions all need confirmation by the responsible logistics parties.

Prepare a freight enquiry pack

Agree packing and handling responsibility

Ask the packer and forwarder to confirm the packing, lifting, securing and unloading arrangements for the actual cargo. Keep package identifiers consistent with the packing list and record packing condition before dispatch. Do not treat a general website packing description as an approved loading plan.

The IMO/ILO/UNECE CTU Code resource provides guidance on packing and handling cargo transport units. Have the responsible professionals use the applicable guidance and transport requirements for the shipment.

Compare the full quoted scope

Request an itemised quotation identifying collection, packing, loading, export services, main freight, insurance, destination handling, import services, delivery and unloading. Mark each as included, excluded or awaiting confirmation. Record the currency, validity and conditions for any additional charge.

State the named place or port and edition when using an Incoterms® rule. Costs and transfer of risk need separate attention; paying freight to a destination does not by itself settle every responsibility. Refer to the ICC’s Incoterms® 2020 overview.

Keep the schedule in separate stages

  1. Material and drawing approval.
  2. Preparation, fabrication and agreed inspection.
  3. Packing, booking and collection.
  4. Export processing and transport.
  5. Destination release, customs clearance and site delivery.

Ask the carrier or forwarder for current routing and estimated transit. Confirm what the estimate excludes and the consequences of missed cut-offs, changes or congestion. Do not use a general route estimate as a promised delivery date.

Confirm documents, insurance and arrival arrangements

Have the importer and broker check the required documents before dispatch. Confirm transport document and release procedures with the carrier. If arranging cargo insurance, review cover, exclusions, deductible, evidence requirements and claims procedure with the insurer; a policy is not a guarantee that every loss will be reimbursed.

Before arrival, agree who receives the shipment, checks its condition and records any discrepancy according to the carrier and insurer’s procedures. Confirm storage, demurrage, detention and equipment-return terms for the actual booking.

Discuss a stone shipment

Browse stone products and prepare the material, dimensions, quantity and destination. For UAE deliveries, see the customs preparation checklist.

Discuss your stone and delivery requirements. Availability and the transport scope must be confirmed for each order.
